About the program

Senior Proms are lively, intergenerational events designed to bring joy and connection to seniors (ages 65+) through music, dancing, crafts, games, and conversation. These gatherings help alleviate social isolation by creating a festive atmosphere where volunteers engage with seniors, assisting with decorations, food service, and event setup and cleanup. Senior Proms are also an ideal opportunity for teen volunteers to participate, fostering meaningful connections across generations.

Why it matters

Currently, there are 1.1 million older adults in NYC, making up 13% of the population. Studies show activities that are group based (or 1-1), senior informed, and focused on shared interest, reduce loneliness and isolation for seniors. Our Senior Prom programs work to alleviate social isolation and loneliness through socialization-based activities that promote direct interaction between volunteers and older adults. The result is pure magic!

You can expect to:

  • Help set up the space for a party, decorate, clean up, hand out food, and socialize with seniors.
  • Engage in a fun and social event where volunteers and older adults (ages 55+) interact through dancing, crafts, games, snacks, and conversation.
