Be a New York Cares/Kaplan SAT Prep Tutor
It only takes two hours a week to change someone's life.
You can give hundreds of low-income New York City high school students the support they need to increase SAT scores and get into the college of their choice.
Big Commitment, Big Reward
You’ll work weekly with groups of two or three students throughout the school year. You’ll see their confidence and abilities grow and know you played a big part in changing their lives. It’s about more than increasing test scores – your commitment shows your students that someone believes they’ve got what it takes, and often, that’s all they need.
Kaplan SAT Prep projects run from October to May on weekday evenings (usually from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.) and Saturdays (usually from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) at 40 locations throughout the city. After training, you will be able to choose your time, day, and location.
You Don't Need to Know All the Answers...
…you just need to know where to find them. New York Cares has teamed up with Kaplan, Inc. to provide comprehensive training in which you’ll learn valuable tutoring skills and how to teach studying and test-taking techniques.
If you have never volunteered with New York Cares before, you must first attend a one-hour new volunteer orientation.
The two 2.5-hour training sessions are held from mid-August through September. Once you complete Part A, you will be able to sign up for the second half of the training.
