Director

The Director of Finance and Operations, who reports directly to the Chief Finance & Operations Officer, plays a crucial role in guiding the organization towards achieving its financial objectives, adhering to regulatory standards, and promoting a culture of accountability and ongoing enhancement. This individual is tasked with managing all financial and fiduciary duties within the organization, which includes ensuring the promptness and precision of financial reports and budgeting procedures, performing strategic analysis of business operations and future projections, and supervising a team of four finance and accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement robust financial controls and policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices, thereby demonstrating a high level of financial acumen and accountability.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure adherence to financial controls, providing guidance and support, and fostering a culture of financial responsibility across the organization through strategic communication and training.
  • Drive the work of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into financial practices, developing policies and procedures that advance organizational goals.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely production and maintenance of the organization's accounting books, ensuring adherence to accounting principles and standards.
  • Manage financial transactions with a focus on accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring proper recording, classification, and integrity of financial data.
  • Lead the finance team in reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies, emphasizing solutions-focused and stakeholder-focused approaches.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including variance analysis, demonstrating strategic thinking and the ability to frame financial information within the organizational strategy.
  • Analyze financial data, providing insights and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board, showcasing advanced consultancy skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-finance professionals.
  • Act as a strategic partner, fostering a culture of stakeholder focus and advancing DEI through financial insights and recommendations.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads and employing a solutions-focused approach to develop realistic financial plans.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and partner with departments to optimize costs and revenue, demonstrating strategic execution and planning and analysis competencies.
  • Experience managing operating cash/liquidity and forecasting, reflecting a strong grasp of financial management.
  • Oversee the financial management of grants and funds, ensuring compliance and alignment with organizational goals, thereby demonstrating accountability and strategic thinking.
  • Partner with program managers and development teams to track and report on grant expenditures, leveraging cultural competence to understand and support the communities we serve.
  • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering an environment of inclusion, continuous learning, and high performance.
  • Drive initiatives to transform the finance function, collaborating with other departments to implement innovative technologies and enhance data analytics capabilities, showcasing leadership in DEI and a commitment to continued improvement.
  • Document, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to support efficient processes and strong internal controls.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve operational processes, procedures, and systems to increase efficiency and alignment with regulatory requirements and business best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, insurance, and ethical standards related to employee and property safety, and develop contingency plans for potential risks.
  • Resolving problems and enhancing services through cooperative relationships with all departments and team members
  • Manage relationships with partners/vendors.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Over five years of experience in a Controller or similar role; non-profit experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Advanced skills in people management, performance management, strategic execution, and strategic thinking.
  • Advanced Proficiency in document management and financial management systems, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, change management, and strategic collaboration across departments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, cultural competence, and solutions-focused approaches.

Compensation

The salary range is $ 125k - $155k and is commensurate with experience.
